US SCHIP Tobacco Tax Thwarted

US SCHIP Tobacco Tax Thwarted

Postby Clubtender » May 31, 2009 12:08 pm

In April new taxes on tobacco products drove the price of cigarettes, "little cigars" and roll your own cigarette tobacco through the roof. Congress and the President actually slapped a $24.00 a pound tax on little cigars and roll your own cigarette tobacco. They did this in the name of funding a program called SCHIP, which is supposed to fund the healthcare of children 30 years old and younger who are living with their parents who make $80,000 a year or less.

As I predicted, these new abusive taxes actually bring in far less money than was being brought in before. The US Government has created a thriving black market for pre-rolled cigarettes from which no tax is collected. Organized crime is extremely grateful to the US Government for that.

"Little cigars" are simply going away, so no tax will be collected on them at all.

In the roll your own tobacco market, companies are beginning to rebrand their products as "pipe tobacco" which has a $2.80 tax on a pound of tobacco. Some RYO tobacco manufacturers have even added a couple of flavors of tobacco to their product lines, since there are no laws against flavored "pipe tobaccos".

With the stroke of a pen, Congress and the President have, created a black market for which competing organized crime organizations will be killing people to establish their markets for cigarettes, put loads of people out of work in the "little cigar" industry, reintroduced previously illegal flavors to cigarette smokers by forcing RYO manufacturers to market their products as "pipe tobacco" and turned SCHIP into an unfunded mandate, because they are now actually collecting less tax money now than before the crushing tax hike. It's more proof that Liberalism achieves the exact opposite result of it's stated intent.

BTW, I have tried the Vanilla and Black Cherry Blends. They do not taste bad and they fill the room with the scent of black cherry and vanilla. "Original Blend" tastes something like Camel cigarettes, "Smooth Blend" tastes like an average light cigarette and "Mint Blend" tastes like an average menthol cigarette. The quality of RYO tobaccos have actually increased due to the falling sales of cigarettes which leaves better quality tobacco on the market for a lower price.

You do realize that there's an easy way to legally avoid all tobacco and cigarette taxes, don't you, Clubtender?

The scumbags will just move the tax on to sugar and fat content in food if smokers quit smoking. When people quit eating sugar and fat, the scumbags will move the tax onto fast food or something else that the working class uses and/or enjoys. That's what we deserve for allowing the Socialist/Democrat party to get back into power.

Then let their parents take responsibility for the product of their own actions and get insurance for their kids. I chose not to breed because I can not afford a child. I shouldn't have to pay for someone else's irresponsible choices. I don't make $20,000 a year and really can't afford my own health insurance, why the hell should I have to pay for the health care of an up to 30 year old child of someone who is making up to $80,000 a year? This is just more of the Democrat party's war against the American middle class.

They're banning the sale of single flavored little cigars here because only children buy them.
They know.
None of us adults buy anything except in packs of 20 or more.
They know.
They don't have to look at my ashtray, they know...
I hope they'll keep in the freezer for a whole year.
